Kindly go through all details from H. S. Gill below.
Any doubts we can clear in our meeting today at 4 pm at Delhi Golf Club.

Best regards
Chetan Singh

Gents,
Tournament Rules sheet is appended below. Also the Draws, with a few minor changes.
Also, you might like to pass on directions to CGR on the alternate route to all your team members. I took this route yesterday and though longer by some 14 km, in my opinion, it is worth the detour. This alternate road also has some bad patches but is much better than the regular road to Classic, which as you know is in very bad condition. It took me 1 hour to reach Classic from Gurgaon, having left at 6:00 am. You can expect to take longer once the morning traffic builds up.

Directions from 2nd Toll Plaza on NH8 – total distance 26.7 km.
After Toll Plaza, keep going on NH8 for 14 km. You will pass on your left, Manesar NSG (8.3 km from Toll Plaza), and a Mandir / Dilli Haat (12.5 km from Toll Plaza). Soon after and just short of the KMP construction (mounds of mud visible) you will come to a roadside village, with a left turn clearly marked for Taurudhan Valley, Best Western Resort and Amity. Turn Left. Stay on this road for 10 KM. You will see a left turn marking for Taurudhan. Take the left turn at village crossroads and continue for 2.8 km, skirting Taurudhan Valley and on to CGR.

Disclaimer: The choice to take the regular road or alternate route is yours – do not hold me responsible!

The programme remains for Registration at 11:00 and shot gun Tee off at 12:00. Light refreshments will be available at registration, with full refreshments on-course. On completion of the round, High Tea will be served at the food court.

Prize Distribution and Dinner will be at Dublin, ITC Maurya on Fri 16th Sept at 8:00 pm.

Message from Hardy Gill quoted below

Hi guys,
Preparations for The Tournament are well underway and I am sure your teams are taking shape. I am also pleased to inform you the venue for Prize Distribution and Dinner on Fri 16th Sept. is Dublin, Maurya Sheraton.
The OSS (Old Sanawarian Society) will extend personalized invites to every player and to special invitees, such as committee / executive members of all participating schools. May I request you to please send me your lists as per attached format by 31st Aug 11, including special invitees. I realize there may be subsequent changes to this list but it should give us a good indication of the field. Final lists should then be closed out by Fri 9th Sept, so that 4-balls can be formed by 11th Sept. The 4 Captains should also call for individual handicap cards for all team members. For players holding multiple club memberships / handicap cards, the accepted norm is to take the lowest handicap. If you have any further suggestions on handicap, we can discuss.
I propose the tournament committee (Chetan, Smiley, Anirudh and I) meet on the weekend of 10th – 11th Sept. If you wish, we could also invite the 4 Captains to this meeting and perhaps finalize the 4 balls at this sitting.
The tournament format was finalized in our last meeting, which I repeat once again:
Format:

  • A 4-man tournament committee, with one member from each school, shall oversee all aspects of the game and rules.
  • Teams shall comprise 18 players from each school, 1 in each 4-ball.
  • List of teams to be declared latest by 31st Aug 2011, along with handicaps.
  • Stableford. Best 10 scores from each team will count for the trophy.
  • To ensure fair handicapping, a maximum stableford score of 40 will count towards the winning score. In other words, even if an individual plays less than 4 below his handicap, he will earn only 40 points.
  • Two guest members from each school shall be invited to play. Their score will not be counted for the trophy.

If you have any query or suggestion, please let me know.
Best wishes,
H.S. Gill

Dear OC Golfers,

1. Raman Khanna – 16 Naldhera
2. Sudhir Khanna – 18 Annadale

6. Manjit Kocchar  – 16 Air force
7. Gurnihal S.Mann – 9 DGC
8. Chetan Singh – 13 DGC

It is surprising that inspite of the information being posted on the OC WEBSITE on 18th July, the response has been poor.

As a meeting has been fixed for Monday 1st August  at the DGC with representatives of the other three schools, DOON, MAYO, SANAWAR; the initial entries need to be discussed.

Each school need a minimum of 20 players to complete the format. Our School has only nine! Incase there is no further response we may need to withdraw from this event. I’m sure there are enough OCS that play golf & would love to represent their alumni. Lets hope!

The Headmaster would also not be available during this period as he too would be out of town. He expressed his wish to honour the ’61 Sixth formers’ in an Honourable manner. He has suggested that we get together in Shimla on the 23rd and 24th September when there would be Cultural Programme on the 23rd, and Sports for the differently-abled on the 24th. He would like have prizes given by the ’61 Sixth formers’. He would like to host a dinner for us on the 24th night at the School.

Bearing the above in mind, I have tentatively booked 15 Rooms at the Eastbourne Hotel near the School, (next to the Grotto, after the first Bridge at the finishing Leg of the Marathon) for the 23rd, 24th nights.

Chandigarh 22rd September, 2011.

Please note that there has been a pre-ponement of the dates.
I am going ahead and making the arrangements as above. There would be no further changes.

Please plan your calendar for the month of September accordingly. I am hoping that all of you who have confirmed so far, make a note of this change.
Curse me for it, accept it, and attend happily.

The request goes to all who wish to attend, the more the merrier. 15 rooms have been booked tentatively; we have time to book more.

Confirmation is desperately required from all.

Subject: The Sanawar Invitational
Gentlemen, Thank you very much for your enthusiastic response to The Sanawar Invitational golf tournament and your feedback through last week. Taking everyone’s feedback and suggestions, the date for the quadrangle tourney between Sanawar, BCS, Mayo and Doon is fixed for Thu 15th Sept 2011 at Classic Golf Resort. You are aware of the busy calendar in September and I think this is the best option under the circumstances. Further details of the tournament shall follow, such as tee off, format of play, trophy etc. as well as details of the dinner and prize distribution, which most probably will be held the following day on Fri 16th Sept. 2011. For efficacy, we will constitute a tournament committee and as such request one nominee from each school to be on the committee, who will help formulate the format of play, referee etc and also keep their respective chapters informed. We are happy to work with all addressed in this mail, unless you wish to nominate another person from your school. The tournament will be conducted to a high standard, and fierce rivalry on the course should make the trophy a prized possession! We intend to make this a much sought after annual fixture and your cooperation and advice will be invaluable. A formal acceptance to The Sanawar Invitational by your respective school chapter head would be most appreciated, at the earliest. The Sanawar Invitational is an initiative of the Old Sanawarian Society, which shall bear all tournament expenses. The venture is lead by Jerry Bains, President of The Old Sanawarian Society.
Regards,
Hardy Gill

OLD COTTONIANS (United Kingdom)

Dear Friends
Calling all OCA Chapters from around the four corners.
Another year and another reunion luncheon and I must tell you, a great gathering and a brilliant success.  As usual, always the last Saturday in June, this one on the 25th instant. And I would like to draw your attention to your 2012 social calendar – We will meet again on the 30th June 2012 D.V.
Our new young Chairman Vivek Bhasin, and promising secretary Gursant Sandhu, our stalwarts Treasurer Puneet Singh and committee members Vinod Nanda and Raj Lamba pulled off a wonderful act bringing in a host of young OCs – swelling the crowd to the pleasure of us veterans …… outnumbering us oldies by far. SABASH!
Message for you young OCs and school leavers, OCA (UK) depends on you and your support.
Some regular OCs bullied-off on Wednesday 22nd at Fairlands, Whyteleafe.  Maggie laid on the gala khana, Daljit Jayjee Singh brought in samosas and pakoras for starters, Rana Data Singh, our established wine merchant, the sharab. More wines and refreshments followed as OCs and wives arrived. Now here is something for the record.  Evelyn, wife of late Malcolm Petters (R 32-39) from Perth, Australia, came along. Evelyn, having spent a short holiday with Elizabeth and Lumboo Evans (I 38-44) in Amsterdam joined Catherine and John Phillips (C 39-44) at their home in Ickenham and drove over together.  Hashim Khan (I 43-47) came all the way from Islamabad. Helen and Johnny McLaughlin (I 41-48) flew in from Michigan, USA, to London Gatwick and after a week’s sojourn with his cousin in North East London stayed with us from Sunday, 19th to 28th instant.  Sheila Reed wife of the late Bobby Reed (R 40-46) drove over from her home in Warwickshire and stayed with us from Tuesday 21st to the following Monday.  Elisabeth and Peter Johans (I 44-48) accompanied by a friend from Canada arrived from Switzerland.  My House and School Captain Clive Hardy (L 40-45) and his dear wife Shirley, and Chris their son, from Buckinghamshire joined the numbers.  Young Chairman Vivek (L 61-70) with his dear Swedish wife Sophia and the late Tubby Whitmarsh-Knight’s engaging nephew John Whitmarsh-Knight, after his 3-year teaching assignment at BCS, graced us with their presence.  Arthur Jones (L 42-48) and daughter Julie drove in from Cambridge.  Peter Travers (R 42-45) from Woking and veteran committee member Raja Lamba (L 42-49) arrived by train with our honoured patron and ex Chairman Gay Niblett from his island home in Mallorca.  As our special guests we welcomed Pat and Chris Krishnan (ex La Martiniere, Lucknow) who resides in the next village up on the hill.  To our sad disappointment we were overcome with a windy and rainy afternoon.  We lads congregated under the marquee and the ladies watched out from the windows indoors!  We boys accepted it all in good BCS monsoon spirit.  My School Captain had warned Maggie in advance to plead for a sunshine holiday!!
Friday 24th we rendezvoused at the home of Shirley and Clive Hardy with Catherine and John Phillips, Evelyn Peters, Elisabeth and Lumboo Peter Evans.  Sheila Reed taking the strain behind her limo kindly drove Helen, Johnny, Maggie and yours truly to Beaconsfield, Bucks.  Refreshments, excellent food and cheerful company shared over a happy afternoon, one we will remember.
Saturday the Twenty Fifth morning dawned with a fall of rain soon to clear leaving a glorious day to celebrate our annual luncheon at the now fond Bombay Brasserie noted for the excellent Indian cuisine.   Once again the restaurant rose to its warm good standard and served a super lunch with all the trimmings and good service.  A high benchmark scored by our new young appointed committee – once again FULL MARKS.  After the meal, Vivek gave an introductory speech followed by an up to date school general report from Anil Dimpy Mehra (a School Board Member).  Deep Anand, also a school board governor, voiced his support for BCS and the OC world involvement, with short speeches from Gay Niblett and our esteemed globe ambassador Humayun Khan from Peshawar, Pakistan.
It was a tremendous reuniting of OCs that we had not seen for some time.  The whole assembly raised the Spirit of BCS to a refreshing high, bringing our friendships a lot closer.  My thoughts go out to those who could not attend for whatever reason that kept them from us.  We wish you well, keep in touch with the flock and hope to see you soon or next year D.V.
CHEERS.
