He was our Divinity teacher in 1959 when I won the Irwin Divinity Essay prize with my name in letters of gold in Irwin Hall. Mr Das Gupta passing away is sad, he was our Art teacher and a soft spoken gentleman. Mr & Mrs Young, Houe Master Rivaz and Mr & Mrs William’s our athletic coach when I won my athletic colours in 1959 representing BCS at the Inter Public School meet at YPS, Patiala. In fact from 153 – 59 nothing has ever faded as far as school was concerned, except for facial memories of boys there was we were still growing and changing every year/

Though, I have never met Mr. and Mrs. Goss personally but it seems they must have been great Teachers as all of you haven’t forgotten them even after 60-70 years..! Mr. Singh rightly said ‘teaching is such a noble profession’ but feel sorry to state that such a noble breed of Academics has vanished now. Rarely one comes across truly dedicated teachers.

I vividly remember that on my second day in school, we were served cutlets at supper. Arrayed on either side of the plate was a fork and a knife, implements which I had never encountered ahead of that day. My head in my hands and my elbows firmly planted on the table, I was wondering what I was expected to do to get that thing into my mouth when Mrs Goss walked up behind me, lifted up my right arm and brought it down nice and firm and whacked my elbow on the table top.

That was the LAST day that I EVER put my elbows on a dining table.

Mrs Goss, if you’re reading this, THANK YOU! It was you who taught us right from wrong. Will always be ever so grateful to you.
